Black Grape - It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah

It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah is the first album by British band Black Grape. It was released in 1995. The album was seen as somewhat of a triumphant comeback for both Shaun Ryder and Bez (both formerly of Happy Mondays). The album represented what some considered an evolution of the Happy Mondays sound on their 1990 album Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches, with more of a hip hop influence, down mostly to the rapping of Kermit, formerly of the band The Ruthless Rap Assassins. The album was a surprise critical and commercial success.

The album art features a famous photograph of infamous international terrorist Carlos the Jackal colored in pop art style. This album art was inspiration for Issue 2 of the Image Comics series, Phonogram.

The opening lines of 'In the Name of the Father' are quoted in the novel The Demented Lands by Alan Warner.

Mansun - Kleptomania

Kleptomania (released Autumn 2004) was the 'lost' fourth album by English rock group Mansun. Rather than being a fully fledged final album it's more a collection of recordings which were destined for the 4th album, mixed by Paul Draper following the bands split with no involvement from the other band members.

The band split during the final recording session for the fourth album, leaving some tracks incomplete and unfinished and thus weren't included on Kleptomania. The true reasons for the split have never been revealed but it seems the band simply "grew apart".

The album was initially going to be called simply "Mansun" but was later changed to "Kleptomania" for its commercial release. The reasons behind this title are ambiguous, as there are a number of rumours concerning the departure of bassist and founding member Stove King, and the band's relationship and contractual obligations with their record company, Parlophone.

The album was originally not going to be released as there would be no band to promote it and Paul Draper was not in a positive frame of mind about Mansun at the time, but due to a fan petition which gained over 4000 signatures, the record company relented and put the album out as part of a CD boxset.

The Soup Dragon - Lovegod

Lovegod is an album by the Soup Dragons, released in July 1990. Three songs from the album were released as singles—"I'm Free", "Mother Universe", "Backwards Dog". There seems to be some confusion over the copyright year, with 1989 stamped on the disc. However, the correct copyright year, 1990, is printed on the liner notes and back tray card. This confusion may be due to the 1990 re-release of the album which added the track I'm Free which was not included in the original release.

Stereolab - Chemical Chords

Stereolab are an alternative music band formed in 1990 in London, England. Although many of the band's albums have been underground hits, they have not found larger commercial success. The band were released from their recording contract with Warner Bros. Records when Warner's imprint Elektra Records folded. The release was reportedly due to poor record sales, and since then Stereolab's self-owned label, Duophonic Records, has signed a distribution deal with Too Pure. Duophonic holds the copyrights to the band's recordings, and on the label the band have released many limited-edition records.
